Touring Rurals, Cortez Masto talks fraud protection, health and safety in Pahrump
PAHRUMP three to four days to one day travel through rural areas of Nevada and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto a Pahrump Wednesday, questions and educating citizens about the performance of their mandate provision.
“I love it, in rural communities,” said Masto. “It helps me to an understanding of the areas I should focus on, if I did not. I believe that much of what my office to make the promotion and education to prevent things occur in the town.
After a stop of the afternoon, Pahrump Senior Center, Masto and a number of deputies took part in a “Kitchen Table Meeting” at the Bob Ruud Community Center on Route 160, where they discussed topics as diverse as mortgages, insurance, workers compensation and there are e-mail fraud, identity theft and prevention of domestic abuse, the dangers of methamphetamine abuse and the crisis of health, medical procedures by uncertainty on a number of clinical Southern Nevada.
“What would you say to monitor some of these mortgage companies? Pahrump resident Louis DeCanio, 59, asked Masto. “They have people in those houses, she knew they could not afford, so they do not receive a commission. These people undermine the Community as a whole, and nobody is going to them.”
“We are, I can tell you that,” said Masto. “We now have a situation where some of these companies / mortgage companies has been the forgery and falsification of documents of tax returns, so we certainly have something.”
The answer to another question, Masto described the health crisis Southern Nevada, as the nature of health care serious issue that I have ever seen. ”
“Compared to my office, what I need is the criminal justice about each type of insurance fraud and Medicaid fraud. We have already studied and aggressive move in search of the Taking of Evidence keep doctors and nurses accountable. ”
The community of Central Forum was free-free, which led to a series of embarrassing questions or outside the apolitical prosecution service area of expertise. Masto expressed concern about each issue, but the direction of the population for the good of their agency or just an opportunity to develop their complaints to decide.
In connection with an issue of domestic abuse, Pahrump Town member Laurayne Murray expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of public services for Neva in the cost of living in the Rurals.
“Let’s talk Pahrump as a whole,” said Murray. “We have a social insurance number, representatives that, once a month. We do not have a specialist in unemployment. We have a representative of DETR [The Department of Employment Training and Rehabilitation] comes to us in the office once a week. We have an individual rehabilitation, once a week. We do not have access to legal aid, unless people can travel to Las Vegas. There are a number of services that we need for more creative options, in order to align it with the people here. ”
In making a journalists’ questions after the forum Masto Gov. Jim Gibbons’ public efforts to eliminate three members of the medical committee for their links with Dr Dipak Desai, the majority owners of the clinic endoscopy of Southern Nevada .
“I defend the governor, and, unfortunately, could not speak of any kind of representation, because the privilege facilities,” said Masto. “But I mean, as a rule, on the whole situation in terms of the law, that the mechanisms in place to monitor whether a member has a conflict.
